# Do I Need the Book?

Yes and no. We are happy to host newcomers to the game and expect all players to have a copy of the Core book to help them get a grasp on basic mechanics. If you are playing a more niche concept that's expanded on in another source book, you will probably want to check it out.

However, all powers, merits, and flaws are listed here - alongside any adjustments made for the server - for ease of access and consistency.

There are many places to buy V5 books, but if you're looking for electronic copies, we recommend [DriveThruRPG](https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/256795/vampire-the-masquerade-5th-edition) for the older books and [Renegade Studio's website](https://renegadegamestudios.com/game-worlds/vampire-the-masquerade/vampire-the-masquerade-roleplaying-game/) for the newer ones. Please make sure your copy is up to date, as these books can sometimes go through several iterations!

If previously-released content is ever reposted in a newer book, we will use the newer version of that content as it is likely that the developers altered it to better fit the current game's balance.
